The rare Coccinella novemnotata, state insect of New York but long thought extinct in the state has been found on Long Island!  This beauty was found on Saturday July 30, 2011 on a sunflower at the Quail Hill Organic Farm in Amagansett, Suffolk County by Peter Priolo.  It was found during a Lost Ladybug event sponsored by the Peconic Land Trust.

Update - Since July 30, 2011 at least 20 more Coccinella novemnotata have been found at Quail Hill!
